Someone that I admire

The person that I admire is probably Maria Salomea Skłodowska, or would later be famously known as Marie Curie. She was born in November 7, 1867 at Warsaw, Congress Poland, Russian Empire. Marie didn't had an easy childhood, her family had lost their property and fortunes due to patriotic involvements in Polish national uprisings. Because of this, Marie and her siblings had some struggles to get ahead of life. However later on, she would eventually get education at the Flying University.

Then, in the late 1891, she left Poland for France. She would continue her education here at the University of Paris or also known as Sorbonne. It was here that Marie eventually earned her physics and mathematics degree. Then, she met Pierre Curie, who shared the same interest in natural sciences with her. They would eventually marry in 1895, leading to her name becoming Marie Curie.

The two became a great scientific team because of their expertise in the same subjects. Later on, the Curies eventually discovered a two new elements that emitted radiation, they called the elements Polonium and Radium. By 1902, they were able extract tenth of a gram of pure radium chloride salt, which was an incredible feat at the time. Later that year, The Curies and another scientist named Henri Becquerel who also contributed, were awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physics. This made Marie Curie to become the first ever Nobel Laureate.

The Curies were a really successful scientific team at this time. However, in 1906, Pierre Curie unfortunately got crushed by a horse-drawn cart. This made Marie curie really devastated, but Marie still continued doing research by herself and even replaced Pierre's teaching position at the Sorbonne, which made the school's first ever female professor. Then in 1911, she won another Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry. This made her the first, even until now, only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different fields. She even open radiology units during World War 1.

Then, in 1934, Marie Curie died of bone marrow disease, which was likely due to her exposure to radiation. Her research has helped in subjects such as physics, chemistry, medicine and a lot more. It seems like she really changed the world.

So, why do I admire her? It's because of her profound success, despite her struggles. Even with a hard childhood, she was able to learn and even earned a degree in her relevant subjects. Then, even though she was devastated after her husband's death, she was still determined to continue her research. Even with sexism going on around that time, she was able to make incredible feats as a female. Lastly, she was able to change the world during and even after her death.
